It is with great shock and disbelief to learn of the passing of one of HRD powerhouse. Mariam Nakibuuka, a Defend Defenders’ colleague working for the East and Horn of African Human Rights Defenders Program succumbed to short illness on Monday 26th July 2021, evening hours surrounded by family, colleagues and friends. Mariam before her death closely worked with South Sudan Human Rights Defenders Network in helping South Sudan’s HRD’s. A job she did passionately.

She has left behind her three year old son, and her husband.

South Sudan team will surely feel the void left behind by this great selfless happy soul of a person.

God giveth and God taketh. May your beautiful soul rest in peace
